Bringing your baby into the water for the first time is a moment you’ll never forget. At BlueFit Swimming, we believe that introducing little ones to the pool in a safe, gentle and joyful way is one of the most powerful gifts you can give.
That’s why we’re proud to offer SplashTime—a completely FREE program designed especially for babies aged 2 to 4 months old. Think of it as your baby’s first splash into a lifetime of confidence, fun, and safety around water.
Why Start So Young?
You might be wondering—“Isn’t my baby too little for swimming?” In fact, early water experiences are not just safe (in our expert hands!)—they’re incredibly beneficial for your baby’s development.
In just one SplashTime class, your baby will be gently exposed to:
Sensory play through water movement, touch and floating
Visual and auditory stimulation from reflections, splashes and songs
Bonding time with you in a calm, supported setting
Best of all? These sessions are led by qualified, nurturing instructors who understand how to support both babies and parents through those first aquatic steps.
What Your Baby Will Learn (Even If They're Just Floating!)
Our SplashTime classes are built on play-based learning—so while it may look like fun, there’s some serious early development going on beneath the surface!
Your baby will begin to build:
Coordination – Gentle movements in water support motor pathways
Balance & Muscle Strength – Floating and light kicking help grow core muscles
Social Awareness – Group settings introduce visual tracking and engagement
Water Familiarisation – Becoming comfortable in and around water early = long-term water confidence
Foundations of Safety – Early exposure sets the tone for future swim safety and lessons
And yes, you’ll also enjoy a whole lot of smiles, bubbles, and splashes.
More Than a Class—It’s a Bonding Experience
As a parent, SplashTime is as much for you as it is for your child. You’ll learn how to hold and move with your baby in water, connect through gentle touch and songs, and feel the joy of seeing your little one’s face light up with every new sensation.
It’s also a wonderful chance to meet other parents and start forming your own swim-time tribe.
Ready to Make a Splash? 💙
Whether you’re a first-time parent or simply looking to start your little one’s water journey the right way, SplashTime is your invitation to dive in—with confidence.
*Completely FREE *Led by qualified swim professionals *Designed for babies aged 2–4 months *A gentle, nurturing introduction to the water
Let’s give your baby their first happy memory in the pool.

As the chill of winter settles in, it’s easy to think swimming should hibernate with the sunshine. But here at BlueFit Swimming, we know that winter is actually one of the most important times to keep children in the pool. Consistency, comfort and confidence—these are the building blocks of strong swimmers, no matter the season.
Whether your child is just beginning their Learn to Swim journey or working towards mastering advanced strokes, continuing lessons through winter sets them up for long-term success. Here’s why:
1. Water Safety Is Year-Round
Water safety isn’t seasonal. Summer may be when we think of fun family days at the beach or local pool, but it’s the habits formed in the colder months that ensure kids are ready when the time comes. Pausing lessons now can mean lost skills, lost confidence, and a slower return to being safe in and around water.
2. Skills Fade Without Repetition
Swimming is a muscle memory activity. Like riding a bike, consistency is key. A few weeks off can mean needing to relearn techniques—and that can be frustrating for kids and parents alike. Keeping up with lessons means your child builds on their progress rather than starting over.
3. Heated Pools, Warm Smiles
Our indoor pools are temperature-controlled, creating a comfortable environment where kids feel safe, warm, and eager to swim—even when it’s frosty outside. We go beyond the water too—our change rooms are warm and our team is always ready with a friendly hello and supportive encouragement.
BlueFit Parent Tips: Making Winter Swimming a Breeze
We know getting out the door can feel harder in winter, so here are a few parent-approved tips to make the process easier:
Dress for success: Bring a cosy post-swim outfit—think fluffy jumpers, trackies, or even PJs for the ride home! And why not consider one of our BlueFit Swimming merchandise winter coats.
Layer up early: Get kids into their swimwear under warm clothes before you leave home to speed things up at the centre.
Use a swim cap: Not only does it help keep them warm, it also reduces hair drying time!
Make it a winter ritual: Build excitement by making swimming the highlight of the week—plan a fun activity or warm treat after each lesson.
More Than Just a Lesson
Winter swimming isn’t just about strokes and kicks—it’s about routine, resilience, and reassurance. Children who swim year-round gain not only physical strength but mental confidence.
Let’s flip the winter script. Instead of stepping back, let’s dive forward—because growth doesn’t pause for the cold.
We’re here for every splash, stroke, and smile—rain, hail or shine. Keep swimming strong this winter at BlueFit. 💙

4 Essential Summer Safety Tips for Swimming and Water Activities
Summer in Australia is all about sunshine, beaches, and cooling off in the water. Whether you’re at the pool, the beach, or enjoying backyard water fun, it’s crucial to prioritise safety for yourself and your loved ones. Here are four key tips to help ensure your time in and around the water is both fun and safe this summer.
1. Supervision Is Key
Active supervision is the cornerstone of water safety, especially for children. Always ensure there’s a responsible adult watching swimmers, regardless of their skill level. At the beach, choose patrolled areas and always swim between the red and yellow flags where lifeguards are present. Remember, distractions like phones or books can reduce your attentiveness, so stay focused on the water at all times.
2. Stay Sun Smart and Hydrated
Australia’s summer sun can be intense, and staying protected is vital:
Apply water-resistant sunscreen 20 minutes before swimming, and reapply every two hours or after toweling off.
Wear a wide-brimmed hat, rashie, and UV-protective sunglasses when not in the water.
Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated, especially when engaging in physical activities like swimming. Dehydration can increase fatigue, making water activities riskier.
3. Understand Water Conditions
Every water environment is unique, so it’s essential to understand the conditions before entering.
At the Beach: Be aware of rips and strong currents. If caught in a rip, stay calm and signal for help while floating or swimming parallel to the shore. Avoid swimming alone and always swim between the flags.
At the Local Pool: Follow the facility’s safety rule and listen to pool lifeguards instructions. Watch for depth markers, and use pool equipment safely.
At your Backyard Pool: Have an adult supervising at all times and keep your pool gates closed to avoid small children entering unsupervised.
In Rivers and Lakes: Watch for submerged hazards like rocks and branches. Avoid swimming alone and always assess water depth and clarity before entering water, avoid jumping or diving into water.
4. Learn and Practice Swimming Skills
Confidence in the water starts with strong swimming skills. Enrolling in regular swimming lessons is a great way to build water safety knowledge and swimming ability. Programs like BlueFit Swimming cater to all ages and skill levels, ensuring everyone can learn how to swim safely and handle potential risks. For advanced safety, consider learning CPR and first aid, as these skills can be invaluable in an emergency.
Final Thoughts
Swimming and water activities are some of the best ways to enjoy an Australian summer, but safety must always come first. By supervising actively, honing your swimming skills, staying sun smart, and understanding water conditions, you can ensure a memorable and safe summer for everyone.
At BlueFit Swimming, we’re passionate about fostering water safety and confidence in the water. Contact us to learn more about our swimming programs or visit your local BlueFit Swimming pool to dive into a safe and fun summer!
All of our Swim Teachers and Squad Coaches wish all of our students the best of luck in their upcoming School Swimming Carnivals! Whether it’s your first carnival or you're a seasoned competitor, the experience is always a great opportunity to challenge yourself, improve your skills, and have fun with your friends.
To help you get the most out of your race day, here are our top five tips from our swim teachers:
1. Goggles: Get the Right Fit
• Your goggles are your most important piece of equipment when it comes to racing. Make sure they fit securely on your face, with no leaks around the edges. To test the fit, place them gently on your eyes and tighten the strap – they should create a light suction without hurting.
• If your goggles do happen to come off during the race, don’t panic! Keep swimming and focus on completing your stroke. You can adjust them later, but in the meantime, it’s all about staying focused and continuing to swim your best.
2. Diving: Confidence is Key
• Diving off the start block can be intimidating for some swimmers, and that’s completely okay! If you’re not confident with your dive or feel more comfortable starting from the side of the pool, go ahead and start next to the block. Diving isn’t mandatory, and your goal is to swim your best, not to worry about how you start.
• If you do dive, remember to streamline your body and keep your head aligned with your body to reduce drag as you enter the water.
3. Racing: Stay Relaxed and Breathe
• A 50-metre race can feel like a long distance, but remember, staying relaxed is key to performing well.
• Keep your strokes long and smooth, and make sure you’re breathing regularly to avoid tiring yourself out too quickly.
• Focus on your technique: kick from your hips (not your knees), keep your core engaged, and blow bubbles to ensure you don’t hold your breath.
• Trust all the skills you’ve learned – they’ll carry you through to the end of the race. The more relaxed you stay, the more efficient your strokes will be, helping you swim faster and conserve energy.
4.Finishing: Always Swim Through to the Wall
The finish line is just as important as the race itself. Always swim all the way to the wall – don’t stop short or slow down early. To ensure a strong finish, touch the wall properly:
• Freestyle & Backstroke: Use one hand to touch the wall. For backstroke, you can even rotate your body slightly to get a better reach.
• Breaststroke & Butterfly: Both hands must touch the wall at the same time. Don’t let your body momentum carry you past the wall, as you need to ensure a clear touch to officially finish the race.
It’s easy to get excited and try to reach the wall quickly, but focusing on a clean, proper touch is essential to a successful finish.
5. HaveFun: Enjoy the Day
• At the end of the day, swimming carnivals are about having fun and doing your best. Everyone is cheering for you, and every race is an opportunity to improve and show how far you’ve come.
• Take a deep breath, smile, and enjoy the experience. Win or lose, it’s all about challenging yourself, supporting your teammates, and celebrating your hard work in the pool.
Good luck to all of our swimmers – we know you’re going to do an amazing job at your school swimming carnival! Stay confident, stay focused, and most importantly, have fun! 🏊♀️🏊♂️
