WORLD DROWNING PREVENTION DAY

soulroll 21/07/2023

Tuesday the 25th of July is World Drowning Prevention Day, and this year the theme is ‘Anyone can drown, no one should’.

World Drowning Prevention Day is an annual advocacy event dedicated to raising awareness around drowning. This global recognition is an opportunity to educate our communities about the impact of drowning and the life-saving solutions that prevent it.

It is estimated that 236,000 people die from drowning globally every year. That equates to 2.5 million deaths over the past decade. More than 90% of drowning deaths occur in rivers, lakes, wells and domestic water storage vessels in low and middle-income countries, with children and adolescents in rural areas disproportionately affected.

So, how can we help to minimise the risk and work together to lower these statistics?

  1. Enrol in swimming lessons – Learning to swim is an essential skill especially here in Australia. To enquire about swimming lessons, you can call our Customer Support Team on 1300 252 583.
  2. Supervise children around water – This is why our facilities are equipped with a supervision policy.
  3. Check the pool and fence gates – Ensure pool fences and gates are locked at all times.
  4. Avoid alcohol and drugs around water.
  5. Wear a lifejacket.
  6. Know the conditions.
  7. Become a pool lifeguard or a swim teacher – Join our team of dedicated professionals in keeping the community safe. To find out more about employment opportunities at BlueFit, click here.
  8. Learn CPR.

Every small step we individually take can help save lives.

BANKSTOWN POOL MAINTENANCE

soulroll 19/07/2023

To further investigate the recent pool heating issues, we have extended the temporary closure of the BlueFit Swimming Bankstown facility.

Our team would like to thank all BlueFit Swimming Bankstown families for their ongoing patience and support.

Initially these works were scheduled to reopen tomorrow, however they have proven to be more extensive than originally anticipated.

As a result we have made the difficult decision to extend the closure of the BlueFit Swimming Bankstown facility.

All swimming lessons will be cancelled during this time and families will not be charged for lessons during this time.

Currently we are anticipating to reopen and resume lessons on Thursday 27th July, pending the progress on the works.

We apologise for the disruption whilst we undertake these important repairs. Additionally we would like to thank you for your cooperation during this time.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

SWIMMING LESSONS IN WINTER

soulroll 20/06/2023

Here at BlueFit Swimming our program runs perpetually, meaning it runs all year round, including the winter season.

We know that keeping motivated during winter can be difficult, but we’re here to help. Here are a few reasons why we recommend that you partake in winter swimming lessons:

  • Maintain progression and learn new skills.

Many people learn best through continual practice and repetition. Often when we implement repetition into our routine skills will develop and become automatic.

Taking a child out for three to four months may impact their technique, delaying their progress through the level or worse, important safety knowledge could be forgotten when they get back into swimming.

  • Continue learning

Rather than potentially losing skills and knowledge, when students continue lessons during winter, they also continue learning. It is throughout the winter season that we are more likely to see progression in students.

  • Get ready for summer

Time flies when you’re having fun! Winter is here today but could be gone tomorrow.

Swimming lessons in winter are designed to help students prepare for the upcoming summer season. Through learning water safety skills and becoming more familiar with aquatic environments, lessons have been proven to decrease the number of drownings.

  • Heated pools

Did you know that most of our pools are heated? Generally they will be sitting somewhere between 30 to 32ºc. Keeping our students and instructors nice and warm throughout their lessons.

The following are a few tips to help our students keep warm this winter:

  • Wear a swimming cap
  • Wear swimwear with more coverage during your lessons, such as a swim shirt
  • Have a dry towel ready after your lesson
  • Get dry as quickly as possible
  • Wear warm clothing and footwear to and from your lesson
  • Take advantage of our warm showers
  • Indulge in a warm beverage from the café

Our team understands and recognised that many parents/guardians pause swimming lessons during winter for a number of reasons.
