TEAM BUILDING SESSION

soulroll 17/03/2023

On Tuesday the 31st of January, our team of incredible swimming instructors all took part in a team building and training sessions.

The session was held in the pool at Casula, but consisted of staff from across both Casula and Bankstown. By training in the pool, team members were able to learn essential skills in a familiar environment. Our training session focused on building and developing healthy relationships and communication within the workplace.

It also included specific training elements of platform safety and a range of manipulation techniques. Further to this, staff were encouraged to think deeply and explore the skills required for each level and swimming ability. This allowed staff to collectively create a clearer understanding of the levels and their individual requirements.

Our local teams would like to thank Stephanie Paterson, the Regional Swim School Manager, who ran the entire session.

The teams are now feeling stronger than ever and are excited to attend the next team building event!

If you, or someone you know may be interested in joining our team, please do not hesitate to contact us via the BlueFit Recruitment Website, or speak with one of our team members at reception.

PYJAMA SAFETY WEEK

soulroll 14/03/2023

Last week we held our bi-annual Water Safety Week !

We pride ourselves on keeping the local community safe and educating students about how to swim safely. A key element to our program is our Water Safety Week. We believe that it is critical for our families and communities to be reminded of the importance of being safe and vigilant around water. BlueFit is committed to the safety of our communities and we need your help to ensure our message and skills are passed on to all children and extended families for a safer community.

This year BlueFit Swimming asked students to come dressed up in their pyjamas. Throughout the week, staff taught water safety specific lessons, that focused on water safety skills such as floating, treading water, basic rescue techniques and much more!

It was amazing to see all of our families and students rocking up in their pyjamas and attending throughout the week, engaging with staff and classmates. We look forward to seeing you all again at our next fun-filled safety week events in November 2023!

“Safety Week runs twice a year at selected BlueFit Swimming locations.”

Water Safety Week is an entire week dedicated to educating our students with essential water safety skills.

The Next Safety Week event will be in November 2023. More details and date is TBC.

All preschool and school age children need to bring their pyjamas (top and shorts are acceptable) to swim in during their swimming lesson.

All infants and parents or caregivers need to both bring a t-shirt to wear during swimming lessons.

This is imperative as we simulate swimming in clothing and what swimming techniques could help save your child’s life.

5 TIPS TO CREATE A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE

soulroll 15/02/2023

Whether you’ve just begun your health and fitness journey or you’re a seasoned health and fitness junkie, following these five tips will put and/or keep you on track to leading a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

By sticking to these habits, you will be putting yourself in the best possible position to reach your fitness goals as well as setting yourself up for a healthy future.

  1. Have breakfast – nothing will provide you with more energy for the day than a nutritious breakfast. This doesn’t have to be anything complex. A simple oatmeal, a bowl of non-sugar cereal or a slice of sourdough goes a long way and will guarantee an easy way to introduce fibre into your diet.
  2. Create a balanced diet – mixing it up every day is good! This means enjoying a wide range of fruits and vegetables, protein, nuts, seeds, eggs and low-fat dairy across each week. A balanced diet gives our body the nutrients it needs to perform and function correctly.
  3. Stay hydrated – water, low-fat milks, coffee and tea all counts as long as you don’t add sugar! Prioritising hydration morning, afternoon and evening are important and water is the way to go. Proper hydration helps deliver nutrients to cells and keeps our body and mind functioning efficiently.
  4. Move a lot – staying active is essential when maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This could be as simple as going for a brisk walk or visiting one of our facilities. Swimming, group fitness class or a gym session might be just the thing you need! Based on https://www.cdc.gov/ adults should aim for 150 minutes of physical exercise a week. Now, this doesn’t mean you have to do it all at once. Spread it out, you could do your workouts for 30 mins a day, 5 days a week!
  5. Create a healthy sleeping habit – good quality sleep affects how well we’re able to perform in life. While we sleep our bodies and minds get all-important time to repair and recover. We recommend no screens at least an hour before bed and going to bed early. This means we get at least 8 hours of sleep and are able to get up early, get the daily workout out of the way and have a good wholesome breakfast.

Welcome Casula!

soulroll 24/01/2023

Towards the end of last year we opened our newest addition to the BlueFit Swimming community at Casula in Sydney’s south west.

After some delays, Casula opened its doors on Friday 28th of October and introduced its eager students and their families to the BlueFit Swimming program. The facility is located within the Crossroads Homemaker Centre, and features two indoor heated swimming pools dedicated entirely to swimming lessons. The centre is designed specifically as a quiet, distraction-free environment where students can completely focus on learning to swim safely. Within the first week of operation, Casula had an incredible 1,400 students enrolled. Since then the swim school has continued to develop and grow.

Welcome to the family, Casula!

KEEP SAFE THIS SUMMER

soulroll 20/01/2023

The Australian Summer season is already reminding many families about the importance of water safety!

On Wednesday 4th January, Royal Life Saving Australia released their National Summer Drowning Toll. This report covers all of the statistics collected from the first part of 2022/23 Summer.

During the week following Christmas, drowning claimed a total of 17 lives. Currently there have been 28 drowning deaths reported across Australia. The report breaks these numbers down into greater detail (with percentages of location, age groups, sex and activity. The following are what have been the high risk swimmers from this years report:

  • Males (82% were male).
  • 0-17 year olds (with a total of 32% being in this age group. Followed closely by the 35-64 age group, they account for 29%).
  • Inland waterways (46% of drowning deaths have occurred in these waterways. This is followed closely by coastal waterways with 39%. Bringing the total of open waterways to 85%).
  • Recreational swimming and boating are responsible for 50% of drownings this year).

Royal Life Saving Chief Executive Officer, Justin Scarr is encouraging that all people are “Choosing a safe location to swim, where lifeguards are on duty is essential. Rivers, lakes, and unpatrolled beaches can be incredibly dangerous, especially for people who have fallen out of practice swimming, or never learned to swim.” The urgency to act and improve water safety to our local communities has never been stronger! These are a few tips we would like to encourage you to implement:

  • Always supervise children around water (follow our Supervision Policy).
  • When swimming in open water, swim between the flags (the yellow & red flags).
  • Wear a lifejacket when boating & fishing.
  • Do not swim alone. Instead swim where there are trained professionals to help you should any danger arise.
  • Learn to swim – attend lessons. Our lessons educate students on water familiarisation, basic water safety skills and will also help to build your confidence in an aquatic environment.

To learn more about Royal Life Saving Australia’s National Summer Drowning Toll here.

Our Supervision Policy:

To help remind our families of our policies we have placed supervision signs up around all of our facilities. You may have spotted some supervision signage similar to the following:

What are our SUPERVISION policies?

TheBlueFit Swimming staff will be enforcing the following rules:

  • Any child aged 0 to 5 years old MUST remain within arms reach to their parent/guardian. To represent this your child will receive a yellow wristband. This wristband MUST remain on them for the entire duration of your visit.
  • Children aged 6 to 10 years old MUST have a parent or guardian who stays close, is alert and maintains visual contact at ALL times.
  • 11 to 12 year olds must have a parent or guardian who maintains visual contact at ALL times.
  • Anyone over the age of 13 years old may enter the aquatic facility unsupervised.
  • The adult to child ratio for this facility is 1:2 (one adult to two children).

You can find full details on our website.

It is important that our families understand that the supervision policy has been implemented for the safety of everyone, and that we ALL have a role to play. TOGETHER we can help keep the local community safe!

We thank you for your understanding & look forward to a summer filled with FUN!
