Superhero Safety Week 2022 Recap

soulroll 08/12/2022

Superhero Safety Week was a success! During November, we held our bi-annual Safety Week, but this time as Superheroes!

The week of the 14th to the 20th of November was dedicated to educating our students on all things water safety. Preparing students for the upcoming summer season. Safety Week is an initiative that we have incorporated into our broader program to ensure that the basic water safety skills are taught to all students across Australia. Throughout the week the learn to swim program is slightly altered to meet these intentions. Safety Week is important as students:

  • Learn the safest part on where to swim at the beach.
  • Learn life saving skills such as floating, survival backstroke and freestyle.
  • Practice swimming without goggles.
  • Understand what it feels like falling into the water with clothes on.
  • Learn how to call for help when in the water.
  • Learn how to perform a reach and throw rescue.

It was wonderful to see all of our families and students (aka. superheroes) attending throughout the week, engaging with staff and classmates. Have a safe summer, and we look forward to seeing you all again at our next fun-filled safety week events in 2023!

Staying Water Safe in Winter

soulroll 21/07/2021

We don’t often associate beach days and time at the pool with winter but our cooler months are when we need to be extra vigilant when it comes to water safety.

Much cooler water temperatures and heavier clothes can put swimmers in a dangerous position if they were to ever fall into a body of water fully clothed during winter. In addition to this, increased rainfall can fill up backyard buckets or inflatable swimming pools, creating potential drowning risks for our little swimmers. As little as 3cm of water (enough to cover the nose and mouth) can be enough to cause a drowning hazard.

During winter, make sure to pack away any inflatable pools which are no longer being used and turn buckets upside down to stop rain from filling them up. Most importantly, consistent and continuous swimming lessons, including throughout winter, is the best way to keep kids safe in and around water. Swimming lessons develop muscle memory that swimmers will depend on entirely if they were to accidentally fall into a body of water.

The Victorian Government announced $21 million over two years for the Get Active Kids Voucher Program. The Program is a Victorian first and will provide support to under-represented groups experiencing barriers to participation in sport and recreation.

The Get Active Kids Voucher Program helps eligible families get their kids involved in organised sport and recreation activities by reimbursing the cost of membership and registration fees, uniforms and equipment. Eligible children may be able to receive up to $200 each and this could be used for Windy Hill & BayFit swimming lessons!

HOW TO APPLY

Children must be aged 4 to 18 and named on a valid Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card and Medicare card to be eligible. Find out if you can apply, what costs are covered and how much can be reimbursed.

Dive in and help us make a difference in the lives of others!

Each year more than 250 people drown in our waters, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Every Australian child should have access to swimming lessons. Unfortunately, we don’t currently have enough Swim Teachers to make this a reality for the kids in our communities. So, we’re doing a recruitment drive.

If you currently teach, have taught before, or it’s something you think you’d like to try, then you could be eligible.

No quals? No problem! The first 100 people to register will get FREE training valued at $250.

Already a Swim Teacher?

If you’re already a swim teacher who will be instructing classes at BlueFit there’s nothing more you need to do… just keep working with us through October and you’re in!

If you don’t currently teach but are qualified and ready to go, then apply today!

So what are you waiting for? If you have a passion for helping others, a patient and compassionate nature, and a desire to make a difference, we’d love you to become a swim teacher at BlueFit.

For all the details and full eligibility terms and conditions please visit the website.

How To Dress To Swimming Lessons In Winter

soulroll 21/05/2021

As the upcoming months begin to get colder and we enter into the winter season, it’s important that we are dressed appropriately for the weather so we keep warm before and after our swimming lessons!

Here our favourite tips to dress warmly:

Ugg boots

Thicker than thongs and quicker than sneakers.

A beanie

Quick way to warm the face and head after swimming.

Gloves

An easy way to keep their hands warm after being in the pool.

Trackies

Easy to slide on and off before and after lessons.

Warm socks

These are a perfect match to a pair of uggs to keep your child warm walking outside.

Jacket

An extra layer of warmth in case the rest aren’t enough!

Bluey’s Swimming Adventure Starts Now!

soulroll 27/04/2021

Between now and September 4th 2021, our swim school has an exciting journey for our students to join in on, Bluey’s Swimming Adventure!

Weeks leading up to the commencement of the program, our reception team will have Sticker Books available for FREE to hand out to currently enrolled swimming students. Starting this week, students have a specific animal sticker to collect with every completed swimming lesson and attach it to their book to continue the journey.

When a student collects all 15 stickers they will win one of our lucky dip prizes. We also have a special opportunity for the students who complete the full book to go into the draw win an iPad! By scanning the QR code on their sticker book, you can upload an image of the student holding their sticker book on the BlueFit Swimming website to have the chance to win.

Only “eligible clients” are able to enter. The prize is not redeemable for cash and cannot be exchanged.

The lucky dip prizes include a yoyo, coloured pencils or a swim cap! The winner for the iPad will be selected and contacted by 13th September 2021. We will contact the winner and send the iPad to the site that they have their lessons for collection.
