PYJAMA SAFETY WEEK A GREAT SUCCESS

28/03/2024

We recently hosted BlueFit Swimming’s Annual Pyjama Safety Week for 2024!

Pyjama Safety Week is an initiative dedicated to providing extra time and attention to impart life-saving skills and knowledge to our students. While water safety is always a priority in our swimming lessons, Safety Week allows us to focus specifically on enhancing awareness and preparedness.

Students and teachers alike, dress up for safety week and swim teachers lead special activities and discussions centered around aquatic survival skills and rescue techniques. By experiencing what it's like to be fully clothed in the water, children gain a deeper appreciation for water safety and the importance of remaining calm in unexpected situations.

Not only did our students learn valuable survival skills, they had great fun doing it!
Check out some of our favourite moments from Pyjama Safety Week below.

BLUEY’S PRE SEASON TRAINING

08/02/2024

We are thrilled to announce that with his annual Big Adventure quickly approaching, Bluey the Whale has hit the ground running, well, more accurately… hit the pool swimming!

What is Bluey’s Big Adventure?

Every year from April to September the BlueFit Swimming mascot, Bluey the Whale, sets out on a Big Adventure to find his friends. Throughout this adventure, current BlueFit Swimming students are tasked with helping him find them! Each week at their lesson students will collect a free sticker featuring one of our BlueFit Swimming characters. There are 15 unique stickers to collect, and once our dedicated students have found them all they can enter the draw to win a very special prize. Last year Melton Waves student, Elsie was the winner of a brand new iPad! This year’s prize will be announced closer to the commencement date.

How can I get involved?

To get involved, simply ensure you are enrolled in the BlueFit Swimming program and are attending lesson weekly. Participation in this promotion is only available for current BlueFit Swimming students.

To enrol into BlueFit Swimming, simply complete the online form on our website.

What does Bluey’s pre-season training look like?

Like our students, Bluey has been back attending his weekly swimming lessons alongside his friends to help improve his stamina. Outside of lessons he has also been getting his laps in, practising through all weather conditions, and remembering to always put safety first!

Here’s what Bluey has to say about his pre-season performance:

“Well friends, it’s been only a few months of recovery and I am proud to say that I’m back in the pool training. With plenty of help from my incredible friends at BlueFit Swimming, I have been showing great improvement. I have even achieved a new personal best! I cannot wait to share all the plans for my next adventure with you… it’ll be my biggest one yet!”

Don’t forget Bluey’s Big Sticker Book Adventure will begin in April this year. Be sure to keep an eye out for further information as the adventure approaches, and keep practising!

Enrol into BlueFit Swimming and get ready to join Bluey on his upcoming adventure!

SUN SAFETY THIS SUMMER

09/01/2024

Here at BlueFit the safety of our community is important to us. To help you keep sun safe this summer we have gathered a few tips and tricks.

According to the Cancer Council there are many ways in which we can reduce our risk of skin cancer. The following are six simple ways you could improve your safety:

Slip:

Slip on lightweight clothing that covers as much skin as possible. It is recommended that you wear a collared shirt that will help protect the back of your neck from sun damage.

Slop:

Slop on SPF30 or high broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen. It is recommended that you apply a generous amount of sunscreen at least 20 minutes before going outside. This includes applying it to your head, neck and each limb (front and back).

Slap:

Slap on a hat. Cancer Council suggests wearing either a broad brimmed, legionnaire or bucket hat. These all cover your face, nose, neck and ears.

Seek:

Seek shade and a cool place to rest. The best way to keep sun safe is to avoid being directly in the sun.

Slide:

Slide on a pair of sunglasses. This will help to avoid any eye damage that the sun may cause.

Slurp:

Slurp on a cool drink of water, or possibly a hydralite. This helps to maintain your levels and avoid any possibility of dehydration.

Important Reminder: Although the sun may not be shining every day this summer, the UV rays are still out and stronger than ever! These are the days that we need to incorporate the above steps more thoroughly.

Cancer Council have also developed an app to help you keep track of your sun activity and furthermore improve your sun safety! You can view more information for the SunSmart App here.

Join us in being sun safe this summer!
